About brand
THE SOVIET ERA Over time, it became clear that the Valul lui Traian wine-growing region is truly exceptional for vineyard plantations. The year 1953 marked a turning point in the history of the Tiganca Winery, which transformed into a real “wine factory” and relocated its headquarters to the village of Plopi. Due to the excellent quality of the wines produced here, the winery soon gained great popularity both in Moldova and abroad. Both the winery’s location, the specific climatic and topographical conditions, and the talent of its winemakers contributed to the creation of some extraordinary wines. One of the best examples is the Tokaji-style wine “Nejnosti” (meaning Tenderness), known for its intense raisin flavor. The wines preserved in the cellars of Tiganca Winery remain the most eloquent proof of the region’s potential and long-standing success. The winery’s private collection of premium wines is a true treasure and a source of national pride, including historic labels such as Trifesti 1970, Auriu 1972, and Gratiesti 1973. ESTABLISHING OUR OWN VINEYARDS The year 2002 marked the beginning of planting our own vines, located 70 km from the winery in the villages of Romanovca and Filipeni, within the Valul lui Traian wine region. The planting was carried out in collaboration with experts from the National Institute of Vine and Wine of the Republic of Moldova, who selected the most suitable soil for each grape variety. EXPANSION INTO THE ASIAN MARKET In 2017, Gitana Winery expanded into Asian markets, with initial exports to Japan, China, and South Korea. That same year, the Autograf series was launched, including four wines: Feteasca Regală, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Merlot. In 2018, Gitana Winery announced a new addition: the Young series, featuring three wines – Young White, Young Rosé, and Young Red. These wines express a fresh and modern interpretation of Moldovan terroir.
